My set up

Hey all

A few people have expressed an interest in this site (okay, erm well two) so here are some details about it.  I host it myself, so if its ever down I'm probably rebooting my computer!  Smiley

I use a few other things which aren't directly site related (IPTables, ProFTPD, etc...) but they're all 'to do' with it still.

Lastly, stuff that's not site related at all!  I'm running the Gnome desktop and I use a KVM switch to quickly switch between my general use PC and this server (so I can use the same monitor/ keyboard/ mouse - you literally just double tap 'scroll lock' and the display switches from one PC to the other).  Most of the time it isn't even necessary to do that as I can also use SSH or VNC to play about with settings from anywhere in the world.

I hope someone finds this interesting, if it makes just one person think - Hey I have a spare old PC that I was just going to throw away, I could use that as a webserver!  Then it was worthwhile writing it Smiley  It was only perhaps a year ago that I was paying £12 a month to have a hosting account with someone and that was CHEAP!  Its actually very easy to install and configure all this using some common sense and the linux forums for the occasional help - no-one should ever have to pay hosting fees ever again!

If anyone wants to ask any more questions then please feel free to ask them in this forum (please don't email me directly).

Thanks
